The Northeast Georgia Regional Commission’s (NEGRC) Area Agency on Aging (AAA) will hold a telephonic Public Hearing via the GoToMeeting™ platform on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. The purpose of this meeting is to gain input into services needed for our aging population within the 12-county NEGRC planning and service area as planning is done for State Fiscal Year 2022. Counties included are: Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Jasper, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe and Walton Counties. Information received from the public hearing will assist in planning and developing future AAA services.

On June 5, 2020, Northeast Georgia Area Agency on Aging and the local Senior Centers will host it’s annual Senior Celebration. To be apart of this event you must be a member of a local senior center. If you are not a member, there is still time to join prior to the event. More details to come soon.

The 2019 Georgia Senior Hunger Summit is the next step to stamping out senior hunger in Georgia. Sponsored by the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services, the 2019 Summit will feature opportunities to learn about and share strategies to address senior hunger in Georgia. The summit will address the five focus areas of the new Senior Hunger Plan (Pub. Dec. 2017). The focus areas are as follows:
- Today’s Seniors
- Health Impact of Senior Hunger
- Food Access
- Food Waste and Reclamation
- Meeting the Community Needs
The Senior Hunger Summit brings together a diverse group of experts, policymakers and community stakeholders to heighten awareness of senior hunger in Georgia, unearth issues accompanying the problem, highlight best practices, and seed opportunities to combat senior hunger.
