Over the last 10 years, Northeast Georgia&#8217;s population grew 14.7% (total 2020 population of 657,220). Eight of the region&#8217;s 12 counties saw population increases greater than 10% between 2010 and 2020, and only two counties experienced population decreases.<\/p>\n<p>A recording of Gina Wright\u2019s, Executive Director of the Georgia Legislative &amp; Congressional Reapportionment Office, presentation at our regional County Managers\u2019 Meeting is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0v1Z-fNQTd8&amp;ab_channel=NEGRC_PGS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">available HERE.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>City Councils can perform local redistricting without the requirement of State approval under the principle of Home Rule, but all other local maps must be approved by the State. A state senator or representative sponsor is required for redistricting requests that require State approval.
